Who We Are
“Never again will one generation of veterans abandon another” has become the predominant message behind Vietnam Veterans’ commitment to other veterans.
It has endured beyond the era of the Vietnam War. This heartfelt dedication to assisting veterans, their spouses, and families in times of need serves as the guiding principle behind the establishment of the Vietnam Veterans Legacy Foundation.
Establishing a Lasting Legacy
Deliberations about the future of Chapter 20 of the Vietnam Veterans of America led the Finance Committee to explore the concept of leaving a legacy.
Recognizing the need to preserve the memory of Vietnam Veterans in Monroe County and its surrounding areas, committee members agreed that action should be taken to uphold the motto, “never again shall one generation of veterans abandon another.” In line with this commitment, it was decided that a foundation supporting veterans and their families should be established.
The proposal for a foundation received unanimous support from the Chapter Board of Directors, and The Vietnam Veterans Legacy Foundation, Inc . was born.
The incorporation process was completed, applications for non-profit status were submitted to NYS and the IRS, by-laws were formulated, and an initial funding of $250,000 was granted by Chapter 20.
The Foundation’s primary objective is to support local organizations that directly interact with ALL veterans and their families.
Giving
In 2023, its first year of giving, the Foundation donated to three recipients in the Monroe/Ontario/Wayne county area. Embracing the belief that “the more we have, the more we can give,” the Foundation is appreciative of any and all contributions from the community.
